Start working with presets¶
Revenue Grid’s setting presets allow administrators to centrally manage and reuse configuration settings across profiles and users. How you start using presets depends on whether you’re setting up a new tenant or introducing presets into an existing environment with active users. This article outlines both scenarios and guides you through the steps for a smooth setup or transition.
Presets onboarding options¶
Presets provide a structured way to manage user and profile settings by storing them in a reusable template.
- New tenants can start using presets immediately during profile creation and user provisioning.
- Existing tenants can evaluate presets safely using a trial preset mode before switching profiles to use presets permanently.
Start using presets in a new tenant¶
If you’re just getting started with Revenue Grid and working in a clean tenant with the default “Self registered users” profile, you can begin using presets right away.
To start using presets in a new tenant:
- Create a preset by cloning the default preset.
- Configure preset settings.
- Create a profile and assign the preset.
- Provision users into the new profile.
- Apply the profile’s preset to all users in the profile.
Transition to presets in an existing tenant¶
If you already have active users and profiles in Revenue Grid, you can explore presets without affecting current configurations by using trial preset mode.
To safely transition to presets:
- Start trial preset mode for a selected profile.
- Add a test user to the test profile to the test profile created by the trial mode.
- Configure the preset assigned to the test profile and verify its behavior.
- Switch the original profile to use presets.
Repeat this procedure for each profile if you manage multiple teams or departments.
What is trial preset mode¶
Trial preset mode allows you to test presets without affecting your existing profiles or user settings.
When you activate this mode:
- The system creates a copy of the selected profile (without users).
- A preset is automatically created based on the original profile’s current settings.
- The preset is assigned to the copied profile.
You can then provision or move a test user into this test profile to validate how preset-based configuration works.
Once you’re ready to adopt presets, you can switch the original profile to preset mode. During the switch:
- A new preset is automatically created based on the profile’s current settings and assigned to that profile.
-
You are prompted to select how the new preset should be applied:
- Switch without applying to current users: Assigns the preset to the profile only. Existing users retain their current settings.
- Save and apply to users – override: Assigns the preset to the profile and all its users, replacing all user settings with those defined in the preset.
- Save and apply to users – merge: Assigns the preset to the profile and users, updating only the settings that differ from the users’ previously assigned preset.
For more details on how each application mode works, see Understanding preset application modes.
-
Sync settings and several other configuration options are removed from the profile page and can now be managed only through the assigned preset.
Important
Trial preset mode is activated per profile. If you use multiple profiles, you’ll need to repeat the transition for each one individually.
Start trial preset mode¶
-
In the Admin Panel, go to Administration → Profiles.
-
Open the profile you want to use as a baseline for testing.
-
In the banner at the top of the page, click Try Presets.
This creates a copy of the selected profile and assigns a preset to it. Your original profile and its users remain unchanged.
Add a test user to the test profile¶
To test preset behavior, add a user to the test profile created by trial mode:
- If a suitable test user already exists, move the user to the new profile.
- If no test users exist, provision a new user.
Configure the preset assigned to the test profile¶
Once the test user is assigned to the profile, configure its preset:
This allows you to check how Sidebar and Sync settings behave when applied through the preset.
Switch the original profile to preset mode¶
Once you’re satisfied with the configuration and testing:
-
In the Admin Panel, go to Administration → Profiles.
-
Open the original profile you want to switch.
-
Click Switch to Presets.
-
In the Apply preset dialogue, select how to apply the profile preset to its users:
- Switch without applying to current users: The preset is assigned to the profile only.
- Switch and apply to users – override: The preset is assigned to both the profile and its users, replacing all user settings.
- Switch and apply to users – merge: The preset is assigned to both the profile and its users, updating only the settings that differ from the users’ previously assigned preset.
For more details on how each application mode works, see Understanding preset application modes.
-
Click Apply preset.
After switching, use the preset to manage all configuration changes for the profile and its users.
