How to configure attachments saving via the RG Email Sidebar¶
Important
This article covers features in the updated Sidebar settings, previously known as Sidebar Customization. For information about the legacy version, please visit this page.
Note
To learn how email and event attachments are saved and shared by RG Email Sidebar, see Attached Files Handling Mechanisms (User level article).
To learn how to configure attachment saving, please refer to Attached Files Handling Mechanisms (Admin level article).
Attachment storage object types¶
There are two object types used for storing email and event attachments in Salesforce:
- Content Document (File): Used in Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic.
- Attachment: Represents the older approach used in Salesforce Classic.
The differences between these object types are summarized in this table (see the CRM Content and Attachments columns).
We recommend using Salesforce Content Documents to avoid duplicating stored files and optimize Salesforce storage. Use Salesforce Attachments only if Content Documents are not available. To find out which type your organization uses, refer to the guidance in this Forcetalks thread.
To enable attachment saving through the RG Email Sidebar, ensure that the object type used for storing attachments in your Salesforce organization is added to the objects menu in the Sidebar settings.
Setting up attachment saving¶
- In the Sidebar, click the Menu icon in the top-left corner.
- Click Customization. The Objects page in the Sidebar settings will open in your default browser.
- Click Manage objects on the toolbar to open a dialog listing all available objects.
- In the Search field, type Content Document or Attachment to locate the desired object, and select the checkbox next to it.
Note
- If both object types are selected, the Content Document object will take precedence. If your Salesforce organization uses Attachment objects, clear the Content Document box.
- If neither object type is selected, the RG Email Sidebar will not save the attached files to Salesforce.
- Click Apply.
- Click Save to confirm your changes, then restart the Sidebar.
Depending on the selected object type, you can now save attachments through the RG Sidebar to your Salesforce organization as Content Documents or Attachments.
